Returning To "Days Of Our Lives" Following Two Years

Returning to Days of Our Lives for an episode arc always makes Alison Sweeney "thrilled," and come 2025, viewers will be able to see her back in action.

Confirming that she has begun filming fresh episodes as Sami Brady, Sweeney, 47, told TVInsider on Tuesday, August 6, saying, "I love playing Sami and I am always happy for the chance to come back." "We always have to figure out scheduling and such, but, if at all possible, I’s glad to make it happen." (Her episodes will start showing on Peacock next year.)

Making her Days of Our Lives debut in 1987, the actress portrayed young Adrienne Johnson in a flashback. She started playing Sami on the soap opera not until 1993. After 21 years, Sweeney left the program in 2014; nonetheless, she has kept making appearances on the show, most recently in December 2022.

"We were all trying to figure out how long it's been; none of us could remember!" she said. "I recalled Sami's grand departure storming from the DiMera estate." Hearing how and why Sami was returning to town intrigued me. With Sami it might be anything.

Though she indicated it will live up to her dramatic standards, Sweeney was vague on why Sami is returning to Salem. "Well, it was definitely an unexpected storyline they pitched me," she stated. "I have to tell you, of all the ideas, I was pretty shocked."

The serial actress said, "I am really happy Sami is still such a feature of the town. I get great enjoyment in this.

Days of Our Lives' Alison Sweeney Returns as Sami Brady

Sweeney admitted, "I definitely get nervous," going back to the show's structure even if she is thrilled to be returning to her soap origins.

"I always wonder whether I can still memorize all these lines," she said. "I mean, we only film eight or nine pages at most while filming the movies for Hallmark. I have thirty plus pages today. It certainly draws on many different abilities. And everyone at Days is daily employed in accomplishing it. I wish not to be the one they are waiting for.

Though she has some back-to- work worries, Sweeney said she appreciates returning to be Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) and Roman Brady (currently Josh Taylor).

In some respects, she said, it does feel like a time capsule. "The dressing rooms, the photos in the corridor, the make-up room is essentially the same as when I started in 1993."

The actress said the whole encounter was "very nostalgic" and full of "so many memories."

Originally leaving Days to concentrate on other projects, Sweeney also has a long record of Hallmark films including The Wedding Veil trilogy and the Hannah Swensen Mysteries. Her worlds have never, however, been that far apart.

Referring to one of her earlier Hallmark and Days crossovers, Sweeney exclusively told Us Weekly in October 2022, "I already had the opportunity to invite Kristian Alfonso, who played Hope on Days] to be in one of my Chronicle Mysteries films."

She also remembered having Farah Fath, the soap opera's Mimi Lockhart, in a "early" Murder. She Made a Hallmark Mystery Movie.

Sweeney told Us she would "absolutely" welcome more of the Days family join if at all feasible. "I truly do try as much as possible to keep those doors open and encourage crossovers wherever possible," she said. "I find it to be quite enjoyable.”

Deadline has reported that Alison Sweeney is coming back to Days of Our Lives following two years away. 2025 will see her episodes premiere. You may also read this: Exes Who Have Shown Up Uninvited on The Bachelor

Days of our Lives Earns Two-Year Renewal From Peacock

"I was delighted to be invited to return," Sweeney told TV Insider, which first reported the story. "I am always glad for the opportunity to return; I enjoy playing Sami. We usually have to work out schedules and whatnot, but if at all feasible, I would be quite happy to arrange it.

Apart from her comeback to work on the serial that brought her household recognition, Sweeney is working on another Hallmark film. "I can't wait to share with everyone the concept," she said to TV Insider. But that will be later this year. This film makes me really proud.

Originally performing in the program since 1993, Sweeney left Days in 2014. Actress was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category in 2015 and won the Special Fan Emmy Award for America's Favorite Villain in 2002 while on the drama. She came back to the program in 2017 and has been on and off depending on different narrative arcs.

Originally arriving at DOOL in 1993, Sweeney portrayed Sami, the daughter of Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall). She loved running for twenty-one years before deciding to concentrate on other ventures, notably her many Hallmark programs. Since her departure ten years ago, the actress has visited the soap several times; she was pleased this one matched her present filming schedule.
